What an incredible catch by Bevan Small
Catches win matches is a famous saying in cricketing circles. This did not prove true even when unheralded youngster Bevan Small took a catch which will probably qualify for the most convincing catch of the history. He took this catch in New Zealand’s domestic Twenty20 league with the help of an athletic leap. The 19-year-old Bevan was 12th man in the match played between Central Stags met the Northern Districts last Friday at Mount Maunganui and was fielding as a substitute when batsman Brad Wilson smacked the ball high and hard towards him.
The ball seemed to have cleared the fence for six but Bevan flew into the air back over the boundary line and, still in the air managed to glance the ball into the safe hands of colleague Michael Mason, who was backing up. This amazing catch got the applause worldwide but failed to influence the outcome of the game and Northern Districts claiming an easy eight-wicket victory.
