Veena Malik is bigger source of Inspiration for Pakistani youth than Arfa Karim
Both Veena Malik and Arfa Karim are from Pakistan. Both were from a humble background with their fathers having served Prestigious Pakistan. Both got the worldwide fame but due to very different name. Former earned a bad name to the country while later was a pride and iconic figure for Pakistan. While Veena Malik is twofold in age of Arfa but both of them surfaced on national and International scene with a gap of two years. Both caught the attention of International media and were widely covered but due to very different reasons. Arfa Karim got the attention of IT world when she became the youngest Microsoft Certified Professional at the age of 09 years in 2004. Veena Malik was already a celebrity but she rose to prominence after she featured nude on FHM in December 2011. Veena exposed herself and got the attention while Arfa showed her brilliance and got coverage in almost every country.
But there is a fundamental difference between the two which shows priorities for Pakistani society. Despite the valuable contribution towards the goodwill of the country Arfa remained a little known person until she was hospitalized on December 24, 2011 and media covered the news about her illness. People started to follow the news about her health and got to know who the Arfa Karim is. If we talk of Internet and social media Arfa got much less coverage than Veena Malik. Veena Malik remained in one the most searched terms on internet and occupied this position for almost a fortnight. Arfa Karim also hit the headlines but remained in most sought after search terms just for a day or two. This seems to validate the Google trends which suggested that word “Sex” is most searched in Pakistan than in any other country worldwide. Science and technology remains a neglected sector in Pakistan. Science and technology is the least important Ministry which nobody is willing to accept and same attitude is transformed everywhere in the society.
There is another fundamental difference between the two. Father of Veena Malik felt ashamed due to her deeds while father f Arfa felt proud due to the achievements of her daughter. Despite all the Veena Malik will continue to inspire more Pakistani youth as they are always looking for the fame and the attention and Veena surely got more than Arfa Karim.
